Romans 10 Verse 17 Explained

VERSE OF THE DAY SCRIPTURE

Romans 10:17 (KJV)
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

EXPLANATION

Romans 10:17 is a short verse, yet it carries a very deep and powerful message for every believer. In simple terms, the Apostle Paul is explaining how faith is developed and strengthened. Faith does not appear magically, nor is it sustained by feelings alone. According to Scripture, faith has a source, and that source is the Word of God. 📖

When Paul says, “faith cometh by hearing”, he is not referring only to physical hearing with the ears. He is speaking about receiving God’s truth into the heart. Hearing here means listening attentively, understanding, and allowing God’s Word to take root within us. This is why sermons, Bible reading, teachings, and even godly conversations are so important in a believer’s life.

The second part of the verse is equally important: “and hearing by the word of God.” This clarifies what kind of hearing produces faith. Faith does not grow by hearing opinions, motivational speeches, or human wisdom alone. While those things may encourage us, true biblical faith is born when we hear God’s Word. 🔥

In practical terms, this means that if someone wants stronger faith, they must intentionally expose themselves to Scripture. The more you listen to God’s Word, read it, meditate on it, and apply it, the more your confidence in God grows. Faith becomes stronger because God’s Word reveals who He is, what He has done, and what He has promised.

This verse also teaches us why spiritual dryness often occurs. When believers neglect the Word of God, faith becomes weak. Fear, doubt, and confusion easily take over because the heart is no longer being fed with truth. Just like the body needs food to stay healthy, the spirit needs God’s Word to remain strong. 💪

Romans 10:17 also reminds us of the importance of sharing the Gospel. When we speak God’s Word to others, we are giving them the opportunity to hear, and through that hearing, faith can be born in their hearts. This is why preaching, teaching, and evangelism are central to the Christian faith.

In summary, this verse teaches that:

  • Faith has a clear source 🕊️
  • God’s Word is essential for spiritual growth 📖
  • Consistent exposure to Scripture builds strong faith 🔑

Romans 10:17 is an invitation to stay connected to God through His Word daily. The more you hear Him, the more you trust Him.
