Psalm 113 Verse 3 Explained

“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised.”
— Psalm 113:3 (KJV)


EXPLANATION

Psalm 113:3 is a beautiful reminder that God deserves our praise at all times and in every place. The verse says, “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same,” giving us a picture of an entire day—from sunrise in the morning until sunset in the evening. ☀️🌅

The message is simple but powerful: God's name should continually be praised. Our praise should not be limited to a particular day, location, church service, or special occasion. Every new morning gives us another reason to acknowledge God's goodness, faithfulness, mercy, and greatness.

Think about what happens when the sun rises. 🌄 A new day begins. We receive another opportunity to live, work, love, learn, serve, and pursue God's purpose for our lives. The fact that we wake up and have another day is itself something worth thanking God for.

Then the day eventually comes to an end. 🌇 We may have experienced victories, challenges, disappointments, answered prayers, unexpected blessings, or difficult moments. Yet Psalm 113:3 reminds us that God remains worthy of praise throughout all of them.

This does not mean that Christians will never experience sadness, frustration, fear, or pain. Life can be difficult. There may be days when you do not understand what God is doing. There may even be moments when your prayers seem unanswered. However, praise is not always based on how we feel or what is happening around us. Praise is ultimately a response to who God is. 🙏

God is still God when everything is going well, and He is still God when life becomes difficult. He is still faithful when we see the answer to our prayers, and He is still faithful when we are waiting. This is one of the reasons praise is so powerful—it shifts our attention from our circumstances to the character of God.

Notice that the verse does not say that God's name should be praised only when the sun is shining on our lives. Instead, it uses the movement of the sun across the sky to communicate continuity. From morning to evening, praise belongs to God.

🌅 When the sun rises, praise Him.
💼 When you begin your work, praise Him.
🙏 When you receive an answer to prayer, praise Him.
😔 When you face a difficult season, continue to trust Him.
🌇 When the day ends, thank Him for carrying you through it.

There is also something important about the phrase “the LORD'S name.” In the Bible, God's name represents His identity, character, authority, and reputation. To praise God's name is therefore more than simply saying nice words about Him. It means recognizing who He is and giving Him the honour He deserves.

When we praise God, we acknowledge that He is greater than our problems. We remind ourselves that our circumstances do not define God's faithfulness. Praise can help us cultivate gratitude even when life does not look exactly as we expected.

Imagine beginning your morning with gratitude instead of immediately worrying about everything that could go wrong. ☀️ Instead of allowing anxiety to control your thoughts, you could pause and say, “Lord, thank You for giving me another day. Help me to use this day wisely and honour You with my life.”

Then, before going to bed, you could look back at the day and thank God for His presence. Perhaps the day was wonderful. Perhaps it was extremely difficult. Either way, you can acknowledge that you made it through another day.

Psalm 113:3 therefore gives us a lifestyle of worship: morning praise, daytime gratitude, and evening thanksgiving. It teaches us to make praise part of our everyday lives rather than something we do only when everything is going perfectly.

💡 Here is the challenge: Try intentionally praising God throughout your day. When you wake up, thank Him. During your work or daily activities, remember Him. When something good happens, give Him the glory. When something difficult happens, ask Him for strength and continue trusting Him. Before you sleep, reflect on His faithfulness.

You may discover that your circumstances have not immediately changed, but your perspective has changed. And sometimes, that change in perspective is exactly what we need to face the day with renewed faith, peace, and courage.

Psalm 113:3 ultimately calls us to recognize that every part of the day belongs to God. From the first light of morning to the final light of evening, His name is worthy of praise. 🌅🙌

Think about your life right now. What has God done for you that you may have taken for granted? Is there something you are currently worried about that you can place in His hands? And when your circumstances are difficult, can you still find a reason to praise Him for who He is?
