Colossians 3:12 (KJV)

"Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;"

✨ EXPLANATION

Colossians 3:12 is a beautiful reminder of the kind of character God desires every believer to develop. Instead of focusing only on outward religious activities, this verse teaches us that true Christianity begins with a transformed heart. ❤️

The Apostle Paul starts by saying, "Put on therefore". This phrase paints the picture of putting on clothes every morning. Just as we intentionally choose what to wear, God wants us to intentionally choose attitudes and behaviors that reflect Christ every single day. These qualities do not happen automatically—they require a conscious decision and the help of the Holy Spirit.

Paul then addresses believers as "the elect of God, holy and beloved." 🙏 This means Christians are chosen by God, set apart for His purpose, and deeply loved by Him. Our identity is not based on our achievements, wealth, education, or social status. Instead, our identity comes from God's amazing grace and His unconditional love.

Because we belong to God, our lives should reflect His nature. Paul lists several godly qualities that every Christian should "wear."

💖 1. Bowels of Mercies (Compassion)

The phrase "bowels of mercies" may sound unusual today, but in Bible times it referred to deep compassion that comes from the heart. God wants us to genuinely care about the pain, struggles, and needs of others. Instead of being quick to judge people, we should be quick to show compassion.

Whether someone is struggling financially, emotionally, spiritually, or physically, we are called to respond with love and understanding rather than criticism. 🤝

😊 2. Kindness

Kindness is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to demonstrate God's love. A kind word, a helping hand, or even a smile can brighten someone's day. We live in a world where many people are hurting silently. Your kindness may become the answer to someone's prayer.

Jesus consistently showed kindness—even to people society rejected. As His followers, we should do the same.

🙇 3. Humbleness of Mind

Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself; it means thinking of yourself less. It is recognizing that every blessing we have comes from God. A humble person is willing to learn, admit mistakes, forgive others, and serve without seeking attention.

Pride often creates division, but humility builds strong relationships and allows God to work through us.

🌿 4. Meekness

Many people mistake meekness for weakness, but biblical meekness is actually strength under control. Jesus described Himself as "meek and lowly in heart." A meek person does not react with anger at every offense but responds with wisdom, patience, and self-control.

Choosing gentleness over aggression is a sign of spiritual maturity. 💚

⏳ 5. Longsuffering (Patience)

Longsuffering means patiently enduring difficulties, disappointments, or even difficult people without giving up or becoming bitter. We all need patience because none of us are perfect.

God is incredibly patient with us every day, and He calls us to extend that same patience to others. Relationships become healthier when we choose forgiveness instead of holding grudges.

Imagine what our homes, workplaces, churches, schools, and communities would look like if everyone intentionally "put on" compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience every day.
