Isaiah 53 Verse 5 Explained
π VERSE OF THE DAY SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 53:5 KJV
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
✨ EXPLANATION:
This powerful verse from the book of Isaiah speaks prophetically about Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He would make for humanity. Even though it was written hundreds of years before His birth, it clearly describes the suffering He would endure — not for His own sins, but for ours. π
The phrase "he was wounded for our transgressions" means that Jesus suffered physical pain and injury because of the wrong things we have done. A "transgression" is a deliberate sin — when we knowingly go against God's will. Yet, instead of us bearing the punishment, He took our place. π➡️❤️
Next, "he was bruised for our iniquities" points to the deep emotional and spiritual suffering He endured. "Iniquities" refer to our inner sinful nature — the flaws and brokenness within us. This shows that Jesus didn't just deal with our actions, but also our heart condition. π§ π
The line "the chastisement of our peace was upon him" reveals that the punishment required to bring us peace with God was laid on Jesus. Because of His sacrifice, we can now have peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation with God. No more separation. No more guilt standing in the way. π️✨
Finally, "with his stripes we are healed" refers to the wounds Jesus received when He was beaten and crucified. These "stripes" symbolize the suffering He endured so that we could experience healing — not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally as well. π
This verse is a reminder of the depth of God's love. Jesus willingly took on pain, shame, and punishment so that we could receive grace, healing, and eternal life. It is not something we earn — it is a gift given out of pure love. π❤️
π€ SELF REFLECTION:

Are there areas in your life where you still carry guilt, pain, or shame that He has already paid for? Are you truly walking in the peace and healing He has made available to you?
