Proverbs 31:30 (KJV)

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” ✨


EXPLANATION

The book of Proverbs is filled with wisdom about life, character, relationships, and godly living. Proverbs 31:30 appears in the well-known passage that describes the character of a virtuous woman. While the passage highlights many admirable qualities such as diligence, kindness, and wisdom, this particular verse reveals what truly matters most in a person's life.

The verse begins by saying, “Favour is deceitful.” In this context, favour refers to outward charm, attractiveness, or the ability to impress people. Someone may appear pleasant, charming, or admirable on the outside, but appearances can sometimes be misleading. People may show kindness for selfish reasons or behave in ways designed to gain approval. Because of this, external favour can sometimes hide a person's true character.

Next, the verse says, “beauty is vain.” This does not mean that beauty itself is bad. Instead, the Bible reminds us that physical beauty is temporary and fading. Over time, physical appearance changes. If someone builds their identity only on their looks or outward appearance, it will not last. 🌸

In today’s world, society often places great emphasis on appearance, popularity, and public approval. Social media, entertainment, and advertising constantly promote the idea that beauty and charm are the most important qualities. However, this verse reminds us that these things are not the foundation of a meaningful life.

The second part of the verse reveals what truly matters: “but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” The phrase “fear of the Lord” does not mean being afraid of God. Instead, it means having deep reverence, respect, trust, and obedience toward Him. It is about recognising God as the ultimate authority and choosing to live according to His wisdom and guidance. 🙏

A woman (or anyone) who fears the Lord builds their life on spiritual character rather than outward appearance. This includes qualities such as humility, integrity, faithfulness, compassion, wisdom, and devotion to God. These qualities are far more valuable than physical beauty because they reflect a heart that honours God.

When someone lives with reverence for God, their life becomes a blessing to others. Their actions inspire respect, and their character leaves a lasting impact. That is why the verse says “she shall be praised.” The praise described here is not shallow admiration but genuine honour that comes from a life of righteousness and godly character.

Although the verse specifically mentions a woman in the context of Proverbs 31, the principle applies to everyone. God values the condition of the heart far more than outward appearance. True beauty is found in a life that reflects faith, humility, love, and devotion to God. ❤️

In summary, Proverbs 31:30 teaches us an important truth: external beauty may attract attention, but godly character earns lasting honour. When our lives are rooted in reverence for God, our influence becomes meaningful, and our character shines brighter than any outward appearance.
