Proverbs 31 Verse 25 to 26 Explained
VERSE OF THE DAY SCRIPTURE
Proverbs 31:25-26 (KJV)
“Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”
EXPLANATION
The verses in Proverbs 31:25–26 are part of a larger passage that describes the character of a virtuous and godly woman. While the passage often speaks about women, the wisdom in these verses applies to anyone who desires to live a life that honours God. It highlights the importance of inner strength, honourable character, wisdom in speech, and kindness toward others. πΏ
The verse begins by saying, “Strength and honour are her clothing.” This does not refer to physical clothing but to the qualities that define her character. Just as clothes are visible to everyone, her strength and honour are qualities that people easily notice in her life.
Strength here refers to inner strength—emotional stability, spiritual confidence, discipline, and the ability to face life's challenges with faith. A person who possesses this strength does not easily give up during difficult seasons. Instead, they rely on God for wisdom and endurance.
Honour refers to dignity, integrity, and living a life that reflects good values. Someone clothed in honour behaves in ways that bring respect—not because they seek attention, but because their character naturally commands it. Their actions, decisions, and treatment of others reflect righteousness and sincerity.
The verse continues by saying, “She shall rejoice in time to come.” π This statement speaks about confidence in the future. A person who lives with strength and honour does not live in fear of tomorrow. Instead, they trust that the seeds of righteousness they plant today will produce joy later. Their future is not filled with regret but with hope and peace.
This is an important lesson: the way we live today shapes the joy we experience tomorrow. When our lives are guided by wisdom and integrity, we create a future that we can face with confidence.
Verse 26 then shifts focus to the power of words. It says, “She openeth her mouth with wisdom.” Words are powerful tools. They can build people up or tear them down. A wise person does not speak carelessly. Instead, they think before they speak and ensure their words bring clarity, encouragement, and truth.
Wisdom in speech means:
- Speaking at the right time
- Offering advice that helps others grow
- Avoiding harmful or destructive words
- Using knowledge and understanding to guide conversations
The verse concludes with a beautiful statement: “In her tongue is the law of kindness.” π This means kindness governs the way she speaks. Even when correcting others or sharing difficult truths, she does so with compassion and gentleness.
Kindness in speech is one of the greatest signs of spiritual maturity. People who live this way do not use their words to insult, mock, or humiliate others. Instead, their speech reflects patience, understanding, and love.
In today’s world—especially on social media where harsh words are common—this wisdom is extremely relevant. Imagine how much healthier our communities would be if more people allowed the “law of kindness” to guide their words.
Ultimately, these two verses remind us that true beauty and greatness are not found in appearance or material possessions, but in character, wisdom, and kindness. When we cultivate these qualities, we become people who positively influence everyone around us.
