“And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”


EXPLANATION

Luke 1:35 is one of the most profound verses in the Bible because it explains the miraculous conception of Jesus Christ. This verse is part of the angel Gabriel’s response to Mary after she wondered how she could give birth since she had never known a man. The angel’s explanation reveals deep spiritual truths about God’s power, the role of the Holy Spirit, and the divine nature of Jesus.

When the angel says, “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee”, it shows that this event was not going to happen by human effort or natural means. The Holy Spirit represents God’s active presence and power. In Scripture, whenever the Spirit “comes upon” someone, something extraordinary happens.
