John 10 Verse 10 Explained

VERSE OF THE DAY SCRIPTURE 📖

John 10:10 (KJV) — “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

EXPLANATION 💡

This verse is one of the most powerful statements Jesus ever made about His purpose on earth. In John 10:10, Jesus is speaking to His followers using the picture of a shepherd and his sheep. He explains that He is the Good Shepherd who loves, protects, and provides for His sheep — that means us! 🐑

Let’s break it down:

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” Here, the thief represents the devil or anyone who leads people away from God’s truth. His goal is always to steal your peace, kill your joy, and destroy your future. 😔 He wants to fill your mind with lies, temptations, and distractions so that you live far below what God created you for.

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” This is Jesus speaking! 🙌 He came to give us more than just physical life — He came to give us abundant life. That means a life full of peace, purpose, joy, love, and a deep relationship with God. 💖

To live “abundantly” doesn’t mean being rich or having everything you want. Instead, it means having a heart that’s full — even when life isn’t perfect. It’s waking up each day knowing that Jesus is with you, guiding you, and helping you become the best version of yourself. 🌅

Jesus contrasts Himself with the thief to show that following Him leads to a better life — one that’s overflowing with blessings, hope, and eternal purpose. While the world often promises happiness through fame, money, or possessions, those things fade away. But the life Jesus gives keeps growing, shining brighter the closer you walk with Him. ✨

So, when Jesus says, “I am come that they might have life,” He’s inviting you into a life that’s alive in every way — emotionally, spiritually, and even mentally. It’s about knowing that no matter what happens, your life is safe in His hands. ❤️

SELF REFLECTION 💭

Have you ever felt like something is missing in your life — like you’re alive, but not truly living? 🤔 This verse reminds us that Jesus came to fill that emptiness. He wants to give you more than just survival — He wants to give you a thriving life.

Ask yourself today:

  • Am I living the “abundant life” Jesus promised, or am I letting the thief steal my joy?
  • What areas of my life do I need to surrender to Jesus so I can experience His fullness?
