Galatians 5 Verse 24 Explained

VERSE OF THE DAY SCRIPTURE πŸ“–

Galatians 5:24 (KJV) — “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”

EXPLANATION ✨

In this powerful verse, Apostle Paul is teaching believers what it truly means to belong to Christ Jesus. The phrase “they that are Christ’s” refers to everyone who has accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour. To belong to Christ means to live according to His Spirit — not just saying we believe, but actually letting our lives reflect that belief. πŸ’«

When Paul says believers have “crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts,” he’s using a strong image — the image of the cross. Crucifixion means putting something to death completely. In this case, Paul is saying that those who follow Jesus must put to death their old sinful desires — things like anger, selfishness, jealousy, greed, pride, and lust — the “fleshly” parts of human nature that pull us away from God. πŸ™…‍♂️

This doesn’t mean we will never struggle with temptation again. It means we make a daily choice to say “no” to sin and “yes” to the Spirit of God. When we “crucify the flesh,” we are choosing to let God’s Spirit guide our actions, thoughts, and emotions. πŸ’–

Think of it like this: before knowing Christ, people often do whatever feels good or whatever their emotions push them to do. But when we come to Christ, our desires begin to change. We start wanting to please God more than pleasing ourselves. It’s a process — we grow every day by reading the Word, praying, and obeying God’s direction. 🌱

Paul reminds us that being a true Christian isn’t just about going to church or reading the Bible — it’s about living differently because we’ve been changed from the inside out. The Holy Spirit gives us new strength to overcome wrong desires and to walk in love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control (see Galatians 5:22–23). πŸ’ͺ

So, Galatians 5:24 is really about living a surrendered life. When we belong to Jesus, we can’t hold on to our old habits or sinful pleasures. We give them up because our hearts are now set on something greater — a life that honours God. 🌟

SELF REFLECTION πŸ’

Ask yourself: Have I truly “crucified” my old desires and given my heart fully to Jesus? Are there still habits or attitudes in my life that pull me away from God’s Spirit?

It’s not always easy to say no to the things of the flesh — but every time you do, you grow stronger in your walk with Christ. Each day is a new opportunity to let God’s Spirit lead your thoughts, actions, and words. πŸ™

Take a moment today to talk to God in prayer. Ask Him to help you identify the things you need to “crucify” in your life — maybe it’s anger, pride, gossip, or jealousy. Then ask Him for the strength to walk in the Spirit. ❤️
